Shatter-resistant home film
Security Window Film for Broward Houses and Condos
When a Broward burglar goes through glass, it is usually somewhere the street cannot see: the pool slider, or a French door off the patio. Security film keeps that glass in one sagging sheet when it breaks, which costs an intruder time and keeps shards off the floor.
Fort LauderdaleHow Security Window Film Behaves on Broken Glass
Ordinary annealed glass breaks into long, sharp pieces. Tempered glass, which is used in most sliding doors, shatters into small cubes that fall out of the frame all at once. Security film is a thick, tough polyester layer with a strong adhesive. Crack the glass beneath it and the fragments stay glued in place, leaving a crazed but continuous sheet.
That sheet can still be pushed in if someone keeps working at it, which is why larger doors often get an attachment system. A bead of structural silicone or a mechanical strip ties the edge of the film to the frame, so a broken pane is held in the opening rather than falling out as one piece.
Security Film and Broward Hurricane Requirements
This needs saying plainly. Broward County is in the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone of the Florida Building Code. Openings that need storm protection rely on impact-rated windows and doors or on shutters with the required product approval. Security film is not one of those. It does not make glass impact-rated, and a filmed window does not meet the county's requirements for wind-borne debris.
Your storm plan does not change because of film. If your house has shutters, they still go up. If it has impact windows, those are doing the storm job. Film is about everyday glass breakage: a burglary attempt, a ball, a slammed door or debris from a mower, and about what happens to the shards when that glass breaks.

Where Fort Lauderdale Homes Use Security Film
We usually begin at the pool deck. A screened enclosure or a privacy hedge hides that slider from the neighbors, which is exactly why a burglar likes it, and it is the biggest single piece of glass on the house. French doors and the sidelights next to front doors come next, along with any ground-floor window hidden by landscaping.
Plenty of 1950s and 1960s houses in Wilton Manors and Victoria Park, and some ranch homes in Plantation, still run on the awning or single-hung windows they were built with. Until the owner budgets for impact replacement, a film layer adds some break resistance and keeps the glass from scattering. First-floor condo owners in Pompano Beach and Hollywood ask for it on balcony doors that open onto the pool walk, where anyone in the building can stroll past.

Clear Security Film That Keeps Windows Looking Normal
Nearly every security product we fit is optically clear. Neighbors will not notice it, and your view of the yard stays as it was. Some versions add solar control, so a slider can get both break resistance and heat reduction from one film. That is useful on west-facing doors that are both a security risk and a heat problem.
Film thickness is chosen by the opening. A standard window might get a moderate film, while a large slider or French door gets a thicker film with an attachment system. We explain the options on site and show sample pieces so you can feel the difference.

Security Window Film Benefits for Broward Homes
Broken Glass Held Together by Security Film
When a filmed pane breaks, most of the glass stays on the film instead of scattering across the floor. That lowers the risk of cuts from a broken slider or window.
Security Film Slows a Break-In
Getting through filmed glass takes repeated blows and cutting the film, which takes time and makes noise. That works in your favor if someone tries the back door.
Window Film With Optional Frame Attachment
For larger doors and windows, an attachment system ties the film to the frame so a broken pane stays in the opening instead of falling out in one piece.
Clear Security Film With Solar Options
Clear film keeps the house looking the same. Versions with solar control add heat reduction, so a west slider can get both benefits from one film.
Security Window Film FAQs for Fort Lauderdale Homes
Does security film make my windows hurricane-proof?
No. Broward requires impact-rated windows or approved shutters for storm protection, and film is neither. Film helps hold broken glass together, but it does not replace your storm plan.
Will a burglar be unable to get through filmed glass?
A determined person with time can still get through. What the film does is turn a two-second smash into a loud, drawn-out job, which is often enough to send someone away. Pair it with solid locks, motion lights and a monitored alarm.
Is security film visible on the glass?
Once cured, the clear grades are close to invisible from a normal viewing distance. Edges are trimmed close to the frame, and attachment systems are designed to blend in.
Is a tempered slider a good candidate for security film?
It is the job we do most. Tempered glass crumbles all at once, so film makes a real difference there, and we size the film gauge and the anchoring to the door and its frame.
Will security film help if a branch hits my window?
If the glass breaks, the film tends to hold the pieces together and reduce flying shards. It does not make the glass strong enough to resist hurricane debris the way impact glass does.
